Senna himself had predicted major accidents and can be seen here investigating how Barrichello is after his accident and commandeering the Safety Car to drive down to the Villeneuve corner to see where Ratzenberger went off the circuit. It is a testimony to how advanced Formula One and Motorsport (in general) has now evolved in terms of safety and post-accident driver care. For the true Ayrton Senna fans, it's a last chance to see him flying around a track at top speed on his way to his 65th and last ever Pole Position. We can only guess how he would have developed the Williams FW-16 that year and wonder what could have been. Please ...

GOLF RSI SPECIFICATION: From interview with HANS DAHLBACK dahlbackracing owner: Yes, the infamous Golf may be able to put out 1200 horsepower. Possibly. The story that comes from Hans Dahlback, the owner of Dahlback Racing and the mastermind behind these insane cars, is that the car, when running on a dyno that bolts to the hubs, produced well over 850 hp to the wheels at around 8000 rpm before the dyno started reading errors--and the car revs to upward of 11000 rpm. Using a 15 percent drivetrain-loss calculation, at 8000 rpm the car was over 1000 flywheel horsepower. I'm making an educated guess that the car produced another few ponies in the 3000 rpm that followed. Considering Dahlback claims the motor pulls strong until just under 11000 rpm--with the power increasing dramatically in the last couple thousand rpm--it's reasonable to assume, considering the extent the motor's power curve was climbing at the point the dyno stopped reading, that the car would have likely gained another 100 or 200 horses in the remaining available revs. You also have to keep in mind that Dahlback massively underpromises any horsepower claim. I was told by various people at Dahlback's shop that the Golf was producing significantly more than 850 wheel horsepower on the dyno, but Dahlback would only confirm 850-plus hp, and thus that is what I worked my calculations from. And yes, the car shoots flames out the side exit exhaust during deceleration. It was snowing most of the time I was in ...

Bangsaen Thailand Speed Festival 2009 - Saturday Classic Car Parade & Official Opening Ceremony

After three days of acclimatisation, practice and qualifying, Saturday saw the Bangasaen Thailand Speed Festival 2009 really crank up a gear as the first round of the weekend's races took place across the many categories. The day was scheduled to start at 10:00 AM with the official opening ceremony and here I expected to see some classic cars, hopefully with a few of the Italian variety thrown in. It's early days for this ambitious street race, now in its third year, and information can be hard to come by with conflicting details comes from one official to the next, meaning one of the best sources for the first-time visitor is the images of previous year's activities in the event's glossy guide. What I wasn't expecting as I arrived at the this track was so quite so many classic cars, and so many significant ones, with the majority being European. I didn't count them but I guess there was well over a hundred cars, all in superb condition and interesting. They lined up in a huge column outside the circuit ready to parade themselves, their immaculate, shiny coats glistering in the relentless morning sunshine, adding more welcome diversity to the event. From Italy there were a whole swathe of historical gems drawn from the Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Ferrari stables that stood out, from a very early Fiat, probably the oldest car on show in Bangsaen on Saturday, to a highly unusual Polski-Fiat. Alfa Romeo was represented by four cars on the grid, a stunning boat tail Spider 2000 ...
